Sr. Maria Alicia Rodriguez, aci

August 4, 1932 – July 21, 2025

Sr. Alice was born in Guasca, Colombia and was the 7th of 9 children to the late Rafael and Librada Rodriguez. Alice lived 74 years as a Handmaid with a radical joy. She was a woman of deep prayer, grounded in a profound, childlike trust in her God. This trust allowed her to surrender joyfully and peacefully to God’s will in all things and at all times.

Alice served faithfully as the cook at St. Raphaela Center for many years. She cooked a famous chicken meal that was a retreatant favorite until her arthritic fingers could no longer cooperate. Sisters worried that retreatants might diminish after Alice left the kitchen! Her gift in the kitchen took her to Rome as well, and she laughed through the trips to the butcher to purchase meat in Italian.

She is survived by her Handmaid community, her brother Jesús Rodriguez and sister Librada Rodriguez.

Sr. Marietta Jansen, aci

December 15, 1932 – July 25, 2025

Sr. Marietta was the 2nd of 4 children to the late Leo Jansen and Mariette Kreutz Jansen. Marietta’s Handmaid life of 71 years embodied the Eucharist through her quiet presence and active listening, radiating peace, love, and acceptance wherever she lived and served.

S. Marietta served as province treasurer and as formator during her years, and was loved for her honesty, humility, and sincerity in each community in which she served. The wider community in Athens, GA, where Marietta lived for 18 years before coming to Philadelphia, will celebrate a “novenario” (9 days of prayer) for Marietta.

She is survived by her Handmaid community, her sister Linda Jansen Kichula and brother Robert Jansen.
